Chronicle Herald Article: From rich diversity to a powerful IDEA

Engineers, designers and business types meet on Halifax waterfront to pool talents on new products.

 

This story starts with an engineer, a designer and a business person collaborating on a single project.

Although it might sound like the beginning of a bad joke, the New Product Development Boot Camp, which has design students from NSCAD University working with engineers and business students from Dalhousie University, is very serious.

The idea is to bring people with differing perspectives together to create new products and potentially new opportunities.

Working in space dubbed the IDEA Waterfront Design Studio, located between the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 and NSCAD’s Port Campus, 18 students, six from each of the disciplines, formed teams with the goal to commercialize a concept.
